Why I Left Living Hope Christian Assembly (A non-denominational, charismatic church):

After having backslidden and repenting of the things I backslid in, I decided that I was no longer going to take man's word for the Bible; I decided to be like a Berean and search the Scriptures to see if what I was being taught was true. These are the false teachings I found at Living Hope: (Note: not all of these false teachings were my reason for leaving, but after learning of these false teachings, I feel it is my obligation to warn you of them.)
-Speaking in Tongues and Prophesy of the future:
1 Corinthians 13:8-10
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
That which is perfect is referring to the complete Word of God, the Bible. We no longer need tongues for they have ceased. Notice that it says we prophesy in part, then afterwards it says that which is perfect (the Bible) is come then that which is in part (prophesy) shall be done away with. There is no more prophesy of the future, the Word of God is complete!
Even if there were tongues, the way they are done at Living Hope is not Biblical. Tongues are an understandable language, not some mystical Holy Spirit language:
Acts 2:8
8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
1 Cor 14:13, 19, 27-28
13 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
There are no interpreters, nor are the tongues spoken in an understandable human language. So even if there were tongues it is not being done by the Bible. The fact is tongues have ceased.
Living Hope also has women "pastors" who sometimes preach/teach with men in the audience!
1 Timothy 2:12
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
1 Timothy 3:1
1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work
1 Timothy 3:2
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
From the above Scriptures it is evidently seen that women are not to preach/teach to men. The office of a bishop (pastor) is only for a man.
Living Hope has no deacons, it is following men's tradition rather than the Bible.
Philippians 1:1
1 Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
1 Timothy 3:8
8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
1 Timothy 3:10
10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
1 Timothy 3:12
12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
1 Timothy 3:13
For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
The Bible clearly shows the office of the deacon, so why aren't there any at Living Hope?
Living Hope supports heretics such as Joyce Meyers (Word of faith movement/prosperity gospel preacher/believes that one must believe Jesus suffered in hell (in your place) to be saved), John Bevere, the G12 church, the Hillsong Song and etc.
Titus 3:9-11
9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. 10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; 11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
Why isn't Living Hope rejecting these heretics? Unless of course they agree with them...
Living Hope has unbiblical standards to become a church member:
Acts 2:41
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
The Bible way is to believe, be baptized (not having to wait 6 months to a year) and then being added to the church. (becoming a member) There is no mention of any courses to complete to become a member of a church in the Bible.
Living Hope makes friendship with the world.
For example the party in the park (dressed in superhero costumes and playing the Spiderman song), the superbowl party (endorsing the idol worship of professional athletes, the ungodly commercials and the scantily dressed cheerleaders), the Christmas party (making the worship of God a mockery with blasphemous songs such as Jesus you're my superhero), the Steel City Saints rap group(taking the music of the world and trying to Christianize it) and etc.
James 4:4
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
1 John 2:15
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Christians should not go down to the level of the world to try and "reach" them. We are not to love the things of the world or to be like them. We are to be separate!
Heb 7:26
26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
2 Cor 6:14-17
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
Lev 20:26
26 And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.
There is mixed swimming held every year at their church picnic. There is no preaching against this at Living Hope. If a man or woman shows their thighs or if a woman shows cleavage they are naked.
Exo 28:42
42 And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:
Isa 47:2,3
2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.
3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.
Ezek 16:7
7 I have caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: thy breasts are fashioned, and thine hair is grown, whereas thou wast naked and bare.
1 Timothy 2:9
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
There is little to no preaching on what some would deem "touchy" issues such as the length of hair on men and women (For example: why men shouldn't have long hair and why women should have long hair), the difference in dress standards (For example: why women shouldn't wear pants, but should rather wear dresses), preaching against television (especially violent shows like 24 and Ultimate Fighting Championship; for they seem to be quite popular amongst the church), movies and video games and etc.
Deuteronomy 22:5
5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.
1 Cor 11:5,6,14,15
5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
Psalm 101:3
3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.
2 Tim 4:2-4
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Acts 20:27
27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
People are "slain in the spirit" at Living Hope in a totally Unbiblical manner.
There is never another human touching a person to have them "slain in the spirit" recorded in the Bible, neither is there ever an instance where there is anyone to catch them. I remember at some special service that people from Living Hope traveled to; a man fell backwards onto a bunch of chairs. (It looked quite painful)I'm sure he was slain in the spirit, but it wasn't the Spirit of God!
Matt 17:6,7
6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid
Dan 8:18
18 Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.
Rev. 1:17-18
17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;
Notice how in these instances they all fell on their face; contrary to the common falling on the back.
Living Hope endorses the Unscriptural book Undercover. (by John Bevere)
We are to test everything that a pastor preaches to see whether it is of the Bible or not. If a pastor's teaching is Unbiblical then we are to rebuke them and if they refuse to repent we are to reject them. A pastor is not to lord his authority over others. We are to be Bereans and search the Scriptures to see if what they teach is so. While Undercover teaches a blind submission to authority; saying that God will deal with the leader so you need not worry.
Titus 3:10-11

1 Thessalonians 5:21

Mark 10:42-45

43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:
44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
Acts 17:11
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
1 John 4:1
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
1 Cor 10:15
15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
Heb 13:7
7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.
A pastor's authority is found in the Word of God, if the pastor strays from the Word then Christians are under no responsibility to follow that pastor.
The only good use for this book (Undercover) is to burn it.
Living Hope's "prayer room" is full of people who pray vain repetitions (or at least GREATLY appears to be vain repetitions)
There will often be people walking back and forth who will repeat the same words over and over; sometimes for 10 minutes or so! An example of this would be saying: "Yes oh Lord", "You're worthy Lord.", "I love you Lord." and then continuing this pattern over and over; of the same 3 or so phrases.
It is very rare to see people praying on their knees in the "prayer room." I do not know for sure the peoples' hearts regarding this, but all I know is that it has the appearance of evil. We are not to pray chanting things over and over. We are to pray thankfully and specifically.
Philippians 4:6
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
James 4:3
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Matthew 6:7
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Matt 23:14
14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
Matthew 6:5
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
1 Thessalonians 5:22
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
Living Hope also endorses the heresy of the universal church.
Almost all Bible references to the church refer to it as local. Paul salutes the church, how can you salute something that is invisible?
The fact is the "universal" church is just another way to promote unity and compromise. When in fact the Scriptures tell us to be separate and to rebuke false teachings.
Titus 2:11-15
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
Eph 5:11
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
Amos 3:3
3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
2 Cor 6:17
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
Romans 16:1
1 I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea:
Acts 16:5
5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.
Notice the reference to a SPECIFIC church. Notice that there is reference to more than one church. These are not invisible or by any means universal.
Living Hope has what they deem to be a "prophesy" microphone. The Bible is perfect and complete. We have God's Word. God speaks through His Word, the Bible.
2 Tim 3:16-17
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
If the Bible is able to make the man of God perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works, why would there be any need for any continued revelation?
Rev 22:18
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Look at the warning God has given. Do not add to God's Word with this so called modern-day prophesy of the future. Stop doing what is right in your own eyes, whether based on emotion, experience or opinion.
Judges 21:25
25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
There is no continued revelation, the Bible is complete!
Jude 1:3
3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was ONCE delivered unto the saints.
The faith is once delivered!
Living Hope practices the "binding of Satan."
1 Thess 2:18
18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.
Satan cannot be bound today. He is walking about like a roaring lion.
1 Peter 5:8
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Eph 6:11
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Notice that there is no mention of binding Satan in here.
We are not to go around commanding Satan or "binding him!"
Living Hopes structure is based on the unbiblical G12 vision.
Last time I checked the New Testament church didn't have pre-encounters, encounters, post-encounters and the school of leaders. The New Testament church didn't have some "cell" groups with a supposed 12 people in them. Having 12 disciples like Jesus wasn't the structure for the New Testament church. This is picking and choosing from the Bible; instead of following the New Testament church order.
Living Hope supports a variety of modern perverted Bibles.
Psalm 12:6-7
6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
God promised to preserve His Word. We have is preserved in the English language in the King James Version.
1 Cor 14:33
33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
We do not need to be confused about all these different English versions. God is not the author of it. The KJV has no copyright. That can't be said of the other newer English versions (maybe their motivation was MONEY?)
Living Hope's worship is truly Unbiblical.
First off most of the songs are based on the HillSongs Church. Here is an excerpt, related to HillSongs fruit:
Brian Houston’s book “You Need More Money” teaches the way to prosperity through giving and “kingdom living.” Houston says, “If you believe in Jesus, He will reward you here as well [as in Heaven]” (“The Lord's Profits,” Sydney Morning Herald, January 30 2003). His wife and co-pastor Bobbie has a tape set titled “Kingdom Women Love Sex,” which doubtless is a good seller. When asked by the Sydney Morning Herald reporter why the church is so successful, Brian Houston replied, “We are scratching people where they are itching.” He is right, but he doesn’t seem to understand that scratching people where they itch is a sign of apostasy. “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears” (2 Tim. 4:3).
Living Hope's worship consists of flesh appealing drums; the drums are the main beat through many of the songs. Drums were not used in the Bible. We are not to make any provision for the flesh. There are no dance teams in the Bible. The dancing Living Hope participates in is not seen in the early church history until about the last 100 years. The Bridegroom is away. We are not in a period where there is the Biblical dancing mentioned in the Bible. Not to mention that this so-called dancing unto the Lord is merely jumping up and down the moment the chorus begins and ends. How is that dancing unto the Lord?
Living Hope's worship is contrary to the Scripture for they have what would be called a strobe light; to appeal to the flesh and to appeal to the world. The lights are dimmed and this strobe light is turned on when the "worship" begins. It is making friendship with the world.
James 4:4
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
The worship for the most part is all emotions. An emotional high is given through this flesh-appealing music and thus an assumed God-given excitement is seen. Sometimes people will begin to break-dance in the "worship!" Often everyone will unite in a very loud shout. Where's the order and decency? Where's the reverence for a thrice holy God?
1 Corinthians 14:40
40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
Revelation 4:8
8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, LORD God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
Matthew 9:15
15 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.
Rev 19:7
7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
We will be glad and rejoice when Jesus comes back for His church, but right now the bridegroom is away.
The music is all Contemporary Christian Music; it is taking the world's rock and roll and trying to Christianize it, instead of being separate from the world.
2 Cor 6:17
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
Romans 13:14
14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
Living Hope's preaching of the gospel is nothing but an offence to God!
The gospel is the death, burial and resurrection.
1 Cor 15:1-4
1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
If the death, burial and resurrection is not preached, then the gospel is not preached! Secondly the Law for the most part is not used to point to Christ.
Gal 3:24
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
For the most part there is no warning of hell! Saying Christless eternity or "not going to heaven" are just ways to avoid offending. The lack of mentioning specific sins is another way to avoid offending.
It is all watered down to something like saying: "Come to Jesus so you can have purpose in life." That is not the gospel in the Bible.
Gal 1:6-11
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
It is another gospel, a perverted one, seeking to please men. The asking everyone to close their eyes, the playing the piano (makes it all emotional), the raise your hands and don't be afraid. The bringing your friends up to the front with you and then getting everyone to repeat a vain repetition and having everyone clapping for them consists of their "salvation altar call." This is not the power of God unto salvation!
Matthew 6:7
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Romans 1:16
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Living Hope deems what would be called friendship or relationship evangelism as superior to all other methods. Notice that the Bible says go into the world, not bring the world to you.
Mark 16:15
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Ezekiel 2:6
6 And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks , though they be a rebellious house.
7 And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious.
Notice that we are to speak God's Words (the gospel) whether they will hear us or not. They are on their way to the lake of fire; it is our duty to warn them!
By the way what if they died before we ended up telling them? What if they don't want to be your friend? What if they don't fit your category for "reaching" out? (I.E: teens would only "reach" teens, but not the elderly) Are they then excluded? Some of the many flaws of friendship evangelism...
There is no 3 month friendship salvation formula in the Bible! Biblical evangelism is preaching the gospel to everyone possible, whether they like you or hate you. Biblical evangelism is going on the streets and preaching to the lost. Biblical evangelism is not slowly sharing a thing here and there, it is not trying to "relate" with them by doing the things of the world with them. There is no video game, worldly movie, television, superbowl party evangelism in the Bible.
To conclude:
The people at Living Hope are for the most part kind, passionate and appear to be sincere. They invested much time and prayer into me. It was very difficult for me to leave the church, but it is better to obey God than to obey men.
Acts 5:29
29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
Just remember: People can be sincere, but they can be sincerely wrong.
Most of the things at Living Hope are not seen in the Bible and are not seen in early church history.
Jer 6:16
16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
The charismatic movement has mostly been seen in the last 100 years. It is not the old path. Please be a Berean. Search the Scriptures for yourself. Prove all things! Don't believe just what anyone tells you; see if it is according to the KJV Bible.
Please I urge you to consider these things. I urge you to consider sound doctrine.
1 Corinthians 2:15
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
I write these things because I am commanded to contend for the faith; for the true sound doctrine of the Bible.
After studying the Scriptures myself I have concluded that a Biblical church is independent, fundamental and Baptist.
